International Week 2014-2015
Dear Parents
Preparations are underway for our AP1
International Week. The classes have all chosen their countries (see the list below)
and the PTG subcommittee is busy organising the Global Café. Thanks to all the
parents that have already volunteered their time to organise and run the stalls
for the different countries. This year we will have 34 countries represented at
the Global Café which is fantastic.
Date
The date for this year’s International Week
at AP1 will be from Monday 19th
January to Friday 23rd
January 2015.
After the Christmas holidays the children’s
learning will have an International focus integrated into the IPC timetable.
The opening ceremony for children will take
place on Monday 19th January with the final ‘Parades of Nations’
occurring, as in previous years, on the final Friday 23rd January 2015. Parents will be invited
to attend this end of week event. More details will follow early in Term 2.
Room
Decoration
The classes have now all chosen their
country and have begun the initial decorating or organisation of ideas for
their classrooms.
All
parents wanting to offer their help / advice would be most welcome and this can
be arranged via the class parent of each class. It is an expectation that the
class parent will be the link between parents and classes, to organise
assistance to the children and class teacher.
During the week over two consecutive days,
children will be timetabled to visit a selection of rooms across the school,
learning about that country’s culture and heritage and also presenting their
new learning to other classes in the school.
International
Food Court (Global cafe)
Following on from the success of previous
years, on Tuesday 20thth
January and Wednesday 21st January 2015 we will be
holding our International Global Cafe. This part of the week will be led by the
PTG Global Café Committee.
Parents of different nationalities have
been invited to prepare a variety of food (NB: no outside caterers will be
allowed into the Food Court) and set up a booth like stall to allow children to
sample culinary delights from their nation. Thanks to all the parents that have
already begun preparations and in many cases, finalised the arrangements for their
country.
A
letter with regards to allergies is being sent as a paper copy to all parents
of children on our medical register who have a record of allergies. If your
child has a food allergy and has not received a letter please see Nurse Shen so
we can confirm that we have up to date details about their allergies. A full list of ingredients will be available
at each stall at the Global Café on both days.
We look forward to another successful
global learning experience for all members of our BIS community.
Kind Regards,
Deirdre Grimshaw
Deputy Head Teacher
